Hartwell Lake is one of the southeast's largest and most popular public recreation lakes. It is a manmade 55,000 acre lake with an abundance of fishing, camping, hiking, watersports and picnicking opportunities. Tranquil and beautiful, it is conveniently located near Clemson, and halfway between Atlanta and Charlotte. It was built by the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers between 1955 and 1963 with a shoreline of 962 miles.
